This district, I think, is unique in many ways – a simply beautiful part of the country, producing fabulous cool climate wines, and amazing produce. It has a local community that really works together to promote and bring that produce to the wider community with wonderful events throughout the year.
F.O.O.D Week has so many fabulous events to attend from the Night Markets, the 100 Mile Dinner, FOOD Train, The Amazing Race – a food rally by car, and of course FORAGE – a moveable feast across the vineyards, not to mention all the fabulous restaurant events too.
FORAGE was a brilliant event, held this year in perfect weather conditions. A 3.5km walk through vineyards resplendent in Autumn colours, stopping every 500m or so to spread a picnic rug and enjoy fabulous food and wine. This event sold out in 3 days this year and I can see why.
The six food stations we walked between, served an entire meal over the course of the afternoon.
The food journey began with a Gallentine of Chicken with Prune & Pork Stuffing served on sourdough. Next stop was a hearty Lamb & Lentil Soup, then divine mushroom pies, followed by Seared Venison with Beetroot Risotto. The last two stations catered to the sweet tooth with an Apple, Lime & Mint Sorbet – we poured our Moscato over the sorbet – divine! and last but not least a Bavaroise with Poached Quinces, Quince Jelly and Fig. Real coffee and cheeses completed the feast. There were at least 3 wines at each station to try too. Such a Great Day !
